On Friday the 27th of August, Bèni Nkololo was announced as the Mariners’ newest recruit and mid-way through his spell in quarantine, he took the time to speak exclusively to us.
Having previously matured and developed through the French Ligue 2 and National Leagues, Bèni was relishing the opportunity to experience Australia.
“I can’t wait to get out and see this beautiful country. I am looking forward to sampling life on the Central Coast which I have been told is very beautiful and then seeing the rest of Australia. I would love to travel to Uluru because we do not have anything like that in France, and it looks amazing.”
While spending his time in quarantine is frustrating, he has been attempting to stay fit by exercising in any way that he can.
“I have been doing as much exercise as possible. Today I got the use of an exercise bike which was great, as I can’t go out running, and I did work up quite a bit of a sweat” he joked.
Nkololo was born and raised in France but his family roots trace back to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“I was born in France, in Rennes, which is located in the north west of France. While I don’t have a favourite French player I idolised when young, everyone loves Lionel Messi. What Messi can do with the ball at his feet is amazing and he is such a naturally talented athlete” he added.
He will leave quarantine in seven days’ time and concluded our chat by explaining what he can bring to Nick Montgomery’s side.
“I frequently play on the wing and can play with both feet, making me a versatile player. This season, I want to win as much as possible, and I want to help the team achieve that” Nkololo said.
