Beni Nkololo extends contract with Mariners

Béni Nkololo has extended his stay with the Central Coast Mariners, remaining with the Yellow and Navy for the next two seasons after a highly successful opening season in Australia.

The Frenchman joined the Mariners last season from US Concarneau and was relatively unknown upon arrival. Béni introduced himself with a goal on debut in the FFA Cup and was one of the best players in the F3 Derby in Round One.

Following his return from injury, Nkololo became a popular figure around the Coast and found the net with ease, finishing the season with eight goals in all competitions, most notably with three goals in three games through February and March, and winning Goal of the Season against Melbourne City.

The pacey winger has felt at home on the Coast and he is looking forward to carrying his form into the next two seasons.

“If you had told me two years ago that I would be playing my football in Australia I wouldn’t have believed you, but now that I am here, I am really happy and I love playing with the Mariners.

“I cannot wait for next season and I look forward to helping the team achieve further success” Nkololo concluded.

Mariners Head Coach Nick Montgomery scouted Nkololo from his trusted contacts in Europe and since arriving, has proven his worth to the club and the league, also attracting interest from overseas.

“When Béni arrived, people asked questions and were sceptical and ignorant about a player coming from the French third division but with our budget, we have to be creative.

“It was clear he had massive quality and huge potential but needed a new environment and coaches who believed in him. Everyone could see his quality from the start and once he settled in, he was one of the best players in the league” Montgomery said.

He went from strength to strength and became a real asset for us and provided goals and assists and will continue to do that moving forward.”

Nkololo will be looking to continue his goal-scoring form when the Australia Cup kicks off once again in July.
