Central Coast Mariners wish to inform football fans and media that midfielder Mustafa Amini has been ruled out of tomorrow-s international friendly match against Glasgow Celtic at ANZ Stadium due to injury.
Amini is a physically developing and talented player that has faced an extremely heavy workload in recent months.
Having played a full season in the Hyundai A-League, followed by commitments with the Qantas Socceroos, Qantas U23s and Qantas U20 Australian National Teams, it has been established it is in the best long-term interest of Amini to miss the friendly match.
An independent assessment on Thursday followed by assessment from Central Coast Mariners medical department this morning has determined Amini is suffering a niggling groin injury that is related to fatigue.
Amini was today frustrated he wouldn-t play against Celtic, but acknowledged his long-term health is more important for his burgeoning career.
“Of course, I-m extremely disappointed to miss this game against Celtic but looking after my body has to be the main priority,” Amini said.
“Unfortunately I haven-t had a break for a year, so I know I need a rest in order to clear the injury up.”
With the FIFA U20 World Cup on the horizon, the Mariners believe resting Amini for the international friendly is also in the best interests of the midfielders chances to be selected and make a telling contribution to the Qantas Young Socceroos- charge in Colombia.
