The Central Coast Mariners Academy celebrated back-to-back wins at the weekend after their impressive 2-0 victory over the Macarthur Rams at Pluim Park on Saturday night thanks to strikes by Adam Berry & Lachie Wales in the PS4 NPL 2.

The opening 30 minutes of play were quite even with both teams getting a feel for each other with no real chances created. The Academy had the first real opportunity of the match when Steve Whyte played a great ball through to Wales who squared it up to Berry but the midfielder’s shot was just off target.
The Academy struck again just three minutes later when Wales again squared the ball across the top of the box to Reece Papadimitrios, who couldn’t find the target from just outside the 18-yard box.
The Mini Mariners continued their first half domination towards the back end of the first half, when Papadimtrios played a smart ball to Berry who’s shot was smartly tipped over by Rams’ shot stopper Jair Fernandez.
The home side had another chance to take the lead in the 43rd minute when Brian Jamba played a ball to Ryan Peterson, who found Papadimtrios only to have his shot again tipped over the bar.
Macarthur Rams almost scored against the run of play before the break when a long ball from the Rams’ keeper was misjudged which allowed their striker in behind to hit a half volley, which was very well saved by Adam Pearce.
It wasn’t long into the second half before the Academy found themselves 1-0 up after Steve Whyte’s great run into the edge of the box was smartly played into Berry who found the top corner in the 50th minute.
The Mini Mariners went close to doubling their lead in the 63rd minute when Steve Whyte’s shot took a deflection but was smartly saved by the Rams’ keeper.
Chances were few and far between from then on in and it wasn’t until the 83rd minute when Cade Mapu made a bursting run down the sideline and into the box, who then played the ball into an unmarked Wales on the edge of the box Wales produced a classy finish and provided a two goal buffer for his team with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The Mariners Academy will be back in action next weekend at Pluim Park vs. Bankstown Berries.
