Another weekend of Central Coast Mariners Women’s and Girls’ academy action is coming up, with our five teams ready for yet another away trip.
This weekend’s destination is Popondetta Park, with our teams ready to take on Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC across a massive Sunday of action.
First grade vs Mt Druitt Town
Off the back of our second consecutive victory to begin the 2023 season, our women’s first grade side are ready to continue their streak this weekend. In their way sit Mt Druitt FC, who after losing their most recent match up are keen to bounce back.
The Women’s Mariners side have been on fire to begin this campaign, securing deserved 3-2 and 1-0 wins over St George and Nepean FC respectively.
Last weekend’s win an important one against a disciplined and defensive Nepean team, with Servet Uzunlar’s 14th minute strike enough to secure the three points.
The team are the only side to have won their first two matches of the season, sitting in outright first on six points. Our opponents this weekend hold a one and one record, having won their first match 3-2 against Inter Lions FC.
They were no match for St George last weekend, and despite leading until the 76th minute conceded three goals to walk away from the fixture with nothing.
They currently sit in the mid table in eighth with three points, with kick off for this game set for 3pm.
Under 20’s vs Mt Druitt Town
It has been an interrupted campaign so far for our under 20’s women’s side, having their game postponed last weekend against Nepean FC due to the forecasted extreme heat.
Having played just the once so far this season, an undeserved 1-0 loss to St George, the team is looking to grab their first three points of the 2023 season.
Mt Druitt is also in hunt of their first victory of this campaign, with the side recording two losses so far.
The first match of 2023 saw them go down 2-1 to Inter Lions, before an extremely tough match last season. St George defeating them 6-1, with the Rangers scoring a 90th minute consolation goal.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:05pm, with the Mariners hungry to secure an important three points.
Youth Girls vs Mt Druitt Town
The Central Coast Mariners Youth Girls academy sides are back this weekend, travelling to Mt Druitt to face off against the Rangers.
It has been a tough start to the season for both the Mariners and Rangers under 14’s sides, coming away with one point between them so far.
Our team going down 4-0 and 6-1 in the first two rounds, aiming to kick start their season with three points on Sunday. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:20am on Popondetta Park field 1.
The under 15’s side have had a stellar start to their campaign, recording two victories so far against St George and Nepean.
Mt Druitt on the other hand sit with one win and one loss, currently in sixth place. The Mariners will be aiming to continue their undefeated streak when the match kicks off at 9:55am.
The final youth girls match of the day will be the under 16’s with kick off scheduled for 11:25am. It has been a stop-start season to date for both teams, with last weekend’s matches postponed due to the heat.
Prior to that both teams had recorded comfortable victories in round one, sitting in second and fourth with goal difference the only differentiation. The two teams will put their undefeated streaks on the line in what promises to be a brilliant match.
