Nick Montgomery’s State Road Constructions NPL2 side bounced back from being held to a draw last weekend, defeating 2019’s NPL2 Champions on their own pitch in a 4-3 goal fest against Hills United.
After the U/20’s won 4-3 as well thanks to some strong individual performances, Monty’s first grade side went 2-0 down early in a slow start and had to claw their way back into the game, and did so with two goals prior to half time themselves from Matt Cahill and Mikey Katsoulis.
After the break the visitors dominated possession, with a dangerous front three causing plenty of problems for Hills and they finished strong as 4-3 winners to set themselves for a clash with NWS Spirit next weekend.

After a narrow win last weekend over their bogey side Nepean, Dan Barrett and his Club Mingara NPLW side continued their strong form with a thumping 6-0 win over Inter Lions on Sundery afternoon.
Gabrielle Blanch got the team off to a good start before Iona Snape and Danielle Wise struck within the next ten minutes to push the advantage before the side pushed on with three more goals in the second half.
Barrett praised his side’s performance and also welcomed back Candace Phelan as she returned from a horror injury suffered almost two years ago.
“The game was played in tricky conditions against an opponent that made us break them down as they were happy to sit deep and try and hurt us on the counter,” Barrett said.
“The girls showed a lot of patience with the ball to carve out our chances but I feel we are still definitely not at our best just yet.”
“After suffering a horrible ankle injury nearly two years ago there were plenty of cheers across the ground as Candace made her return to football.”
“She’s definitely a club favourite and I have watched her battle hard and show so much determination to get herself back on the park where she belongs.”
The squad also farewelled Dani Wise as she heads to Queensland for the remainder of this year, and Barrett is hopeful of her return in 2021.
