The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm the signing of 26-year-old defender, Jack Clisby who will join the Yellow & Navy for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

Clisby arrives on the Central Coast from the Western Sydney Wanderers after putting pen-to-paper on a one-year-deal.

Since debuting in the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season for Perth Glory, the reliable defender boasts experience beyond his years having already played 97 games in Australia’s top flight during his time with Perth, Melbourne City and the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Clisby is an accomplished left or centre back and is well-known to A-League opponents for his overlapping runs to offer an outlet in attack.

In his first season under Tony Popovic, Clisby managed 30 appearances across all competitions for the Western Sydney Wanderers where they qualified for the finals series, only to be knocked out by Brisbane Roar in a penalty shoot-out.

There’s a sense of Déjà vu to Clisby’s signing as he reunites with Jacob Melling, a teammate at both the Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City.

With pre-season starting in early June, Clisby can’t wait to get going.

“I can’t wait to get started with the Central Coast Mariners,” Clisby said. “I’ve already had the opportunity to visit the club and from the first moment; Mike, Monty and the whole club have been very welcoming. I was shown around the training complex and very impressed with the facilities.

“Once I heard that Mike Mulvey was going to be appointed Head Coach I was very interested. I’ve got a few mates throughout the A-League who have played under him and they all have nothing but positive things to say. We’ve seen how successful he was at Brisbane – with him coming to the Mariners it’s a really exciting prospect for the club.

“I wish pre-season started tomorrow to be honest. Mike’s building a great squad, we’ve got plenty of time to gel and it’s something I am really excited to be a part of. I’m at a point in my career where I should be hitting peak form and I cannot wait to go out there and prove to everyone what I’m capable of,” Clisby said.

Central Coast Mariners Head Coach, Mike Mulvey welcomed Clisby to the Mariners.

“Left-sided players are hard to come by and we are delighted to have Jack joining the Mariners this season,” Mulvey said. “The Mariners have been fortunate enough to admire the work of Josh Rose in that position for many seasons who leaves big shoes to fill,” Mulvey said.

Clisby will link up with his new teammates in June on the Central Coast when the squad report for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 pre-season.
