Central Coast Mariners U18s team will play their third game in this seasons Waratah Cup on Wednesday 18 April at Pluim Park, Lisarow.
Having defeated Loftus FC 7-3 in extra time after the scores were locked 2-2 after 90 minutes in the preliminary round of the competition, the ambitious 18s triumphed 3-2 over Interlions at Pluim Park in round 1 of the statewide knockout competition.
Louie Murphy netted a hat trick for the junior yellow and navy against Interlions, and will be hoping to replicate his strong form when the Academy team hosts Southern Bulls of the NSW State League Division 1 this Wednesday.
With Interlions defeating the Bulls in their league last weekend, the Mariners have every reason to head into the contest confident they can extend their winning run in the competition.
Coach Paul Waters said the team is focussed on developing their style of play, and emphasised his joy at coaching a determined group of young players.
“We are working really hard at developing their passing game and their movement on and off the ball, which is all designed to help them play an attractive, possession based style of play,” he said.
“They are all very eager to learn and increase their playing ability to a higher level, and work very hard at trying to achieve it.”
The 2012 Waratah Cup includes senior men-s teams from around NSW and the ACT, including clubs from State Leagues 1 and 2, the Illawarra Premier League, and the ACT Premier League.
Kick-off in the Mariners U18 Waratah Cup clash with Southern Bulls is at 7:30pm.
While the Mariners U18s have been excelling in the Waratah Cup, the team has also been replicating its strong form in the League.
Indeed, with a busy schedule in the Boys Super Youth League, Waters- outfit are current sitting top of the table after four rounds with three wins and just one loss.
On Saturday 21 April, the team plays at home to Bankstown Berries, before they travel to Football NSW headquarters at Glenwood to challenge the NSW Institute of Sport on Anzac Day.
