A SCRAPPY POINT IN PERTH

The first time to the Sam Kerr Football Centre for Central Coast Mariners resulted in a goalless draw for the Women’s side.

The battle for top 6 saw the Mariners take on seventh placed Perth Glory and with 3 or more goals scored in each of Central Coast Mariners’s last 4 games, the visitors looked to carry on their goal scoring form.

It was the home team who started the better of the two sides, applying early pressure to Central Coast Mariners and creating the game’s first chance.

It wasn’t until after the second drinks break of the first-half that the Mariners found their feet, Avaani Prakash being the positive outlet and showing promising signs for the visitors.

The best chance of the first-half came just before the 40-minute mark as a long range shot from Lorena Baumann brought out a good save from the Glory keeper Teresa Morrissey.

Chances were few and far between for both sides in Perth but the Mariners came out the blocks fast in the second-half with a dangerous ball flashed across goal but a lack of a finish kept the game 0-0.

Central Coast Mariners looked to turn the tide of Glory possession as they pressed higher up the pitch and brought the game’s best chance in the 71st minute. Two attempts cleared off the line and one striking the bar was the closest the Mariners’ were to breaking the deadlock.

Both teams struggled under the Perth sun with players digging in deep to push for the winner.

With 97 minutes played of the 96 added, Central Coast were awarded a dangerous freekick after Mischa Anderson fouled Avaani Prakash just outside the area but the ball bounced the wrong side of the post for the Mariners.

The draw sees the sides remain just outside of the top 6.

Central Coast Mariners will play Canberra United FC at Polytec stadium on Sunday 29 March in their next Ninja A-League Women’s game
