Pavlesic penalty stop in Mount Druitt draw
Adam Pavlesic made his second consecutive Men’s Academy appearance in goal, making a crucial penalty save early on as Lucas Vilela’s side battled to a 1-1 draw with Mount Druitt on Saturday.
The Mariners took the lead in the 52nd minute through Muginga Mpota, who found the bottom corner with a clinical strike after a strong run through the Mount Druitt half.
However, Vilela’s team would be denied back-to-back wins and clean sheets by a wonder strike in the 83rd minute from Mount Druitt’s talisman Pedrinho.
“It was a pretty even game between two strong teams.” Academy Head Coach Vilela told Football NSW after the game.
“I knew it would be tight after their result last week but the boys gave everything. I am happy with the process lately and this is a fair result tonight,” he added.
Emphatic win for Women’s Academy
Our Women’s Academy produced an emphatic 7-1 victory away to Nepean on Sunday evening in the FNSW League One Women’s.
Recent scholarship signing Eliza Familton opened the scoring after 14 minutes before bagging her brace on the stroke of half time, but Peyton Scollay went one better as she wrapped up a first half hat-trick with goals in the 17th, 24th and 43rd minute. Clare Denning was also on target as the Mariners took complete control with a 6-0 half time lead.
With the game already wrapped up, the Mariners scored just once more in the second half as Savannah Lalor made it 7-1 in the 82nd minute, leaving the Mariners third on the ladder and unbeaten after three rounds.
