The Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce that Taren King has been named captain of our women’s Ninja A-League team for the upcoming season.
Entering into her second campaign in Yellow and Navy, the 27-year-old has again been voted to lead the team by her peers after being named as captain for our return season to the Ninja A-League competition.
While an ACL Injury which occurred in January unfortunately ruled King out for the second half of the season, the defender still played a vital role in helping us reach the semi-finals through her leadership off the field.
Still recovering from that injury, King will lead our team full of talented Aussie youngsters, experienced and exciting Visa players and A-League veterans as soon as she returns to the pitch.
Croatian International midfielder Bianca Galic has been named as the team’s Vice-Captain, with the 25-year-old to wear the armband for the first part of the season in King’s absence. Our leadership group also consists of Annabel Martin and Taylor Ray.
Speaking after it was confirmed that she would again captain our Ninja A-League squad, King is proud and honoured to be holding the role.
“I am super proud to have been named captain of this team again. It is such an honour to both play alongside the girls and to lead them, and I can’t wait to be able to do it on the pitch once I am back,” King said.
“To wear the armband is a privilege, especially after being voted into the position by this incredible team. It is very special and something that I am extremely proud of.”
Central Coast Mariners Head Coach Emily Husband is pleased to be able to announce King as our captain for the second season in a row, as well as Galic being awarded the vice-captaincy.
“Taren being awarded the captaincy for this season is very well deserved. She led us brilliantly last year, both on and off the pitch, so to have her continue to lead the team this season is great for the group,” Husband said.
“For Bianca it is a great opportunity for her to step up and lead the group on the pitch while Taren is still recovering. She is already very experienced in this league, and for the first part of the season we have her leadership on the pitch and Taren’s off it.”
