Central Coast Mariners midfielder Josh Nisbet was pleased to be able to get on the scoresheet against Brisbane last weekend, with him confident in the team’s chances heading into our away trip to Ballarat.
Nisbet scored his first of the season in the 17th minute, having had one chalked off earlier this season. The goal a perfect representation of him as a player, fighting to get the last touch to poke it past Jordan Holmes in the Brisbane net.
“It has been a while since I got my last goal, that one was against the Jets last season,” he said.
“To be able to score in a good performance while getting the win makes it even better.”
That match was off the back of a weekend without football due to the international break, with Nisbet believing that it came at a beneficial time.
“The break came at a good time for us. We were not playing too well, and the break gave us the opportunity to regroup,” he said.
“To be able to put in a good performance like that was pleasing, so hopefully we can carry that on into the finals in a few weeks’ time.”
The mood is a happy one around the squad leading into the Western United game, knowing that wins currently are more important than ever.
“Yeah, it is pretty positive right now for everyone. We are all happy with the result against Brisbane and are looking forward to Western United this weekend,” he said.
“They have big bodies at the back, we know that. So, I’m not too sure how we are going to go airily so we are just going to perform the way that works best for us. We need to perform our best, get a few goals and get the win.”
With just four matches until finals football, every team is fighting for places in the top six. The Mariners currently are in third, three points ahead of fifth placed Wellington Phoenix. Nisbet and the squad aiming to finish as close to the top as possible, wanting a home final.
“We need to stick to both what we are good at and what we know. Pushing through and getting the points that we need to get into the finals is what is the most important thing right now.
“The goal is to have a home elimination final. It would be a great thing for the Central Coast to have that and give our fans that opportunity to watch the game. So we are really pushing to get the points to be able to accomplish that goal.”
