A fit-looking Luis Garcia arrived at Sydney airport this morning with the ex-Liverpool great declaring he was ready to play a part for his new club Central Coast in Saturday’s night’s Hyundai A-League clash against the Wanderers in Gosford.
Garcia, 37, landed at Sydney airport at 6.30am and received an enthusiastic reception from Mariners fans and a large media contingent.
Asked whether he was physically ready to face second placed Western Sydney on Saturday night in Gosford, the Spanish forward believed he’d be okay despite only having one training session planned with his new teammates and two days to prepare.
“Yes, it depends on the coach, he is the one who decides but if the coach thinks I’m ready to play, I’ll be able to,” Garcia told a large media contingent.
Physically, Garcia said he felt good despite a year out of competitive football with a number of legends games for Liverpool and daily gym sessions keeping him ticking over.
And he is looking forward to mentoring the young Mariners after a difficult season has seen them sit on the bottom of the A-League.
“I feel good. I have to not be too crazy and think I’m 25,” said Garcia of his fitness.
“Let me check on the weekend how I feel. But I come here to try do my best but the coach is the one who is going to decide how many minutes on the pitch I need.”
However, the Spanish great added a cautious note on his influence on a side that sits in 10th spot and 11 points off sixth spot.
“I don’t think I can lift them up. I think I can help them to do something good in the team. All together I think we can do something well.
“It’s a very competitive league and I’ll try to adapt as well as I can.”
