Tight losses in Men’s NPL competition round out academy weekend

Narrow losses in both NPL Men’s first grade and under 20’s to Blacktown City ended an otherwise even weekend for the Mariners academy. Our boy’s sides went undefeated across the five age groups, with four draws and a win.

First grade vs Blacktown City FC

Despite showing a fighting spirit throughout the entire 90 minutes at Pluim Park on Saturday, the Mariners men’s NPL first grade side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Blacktown City.

Despite looking arguably the better side in the first half Blacktown scored right on the whistle through Jak O’Brien, with the away side taking the advantage into the break.

A determined second half from Abbas Saad’s men saw last year’s champion’s tested, with our defence holding strong. Despite a few late chances we were unable to get the equaliser, going down 1-0.

We travel away this weekend to take on NWS Spirit, looking to collect our first three points of the season.

Under 20’s vs Blacktown City FC

The Central Coast Mariners under 20’s fell to a 2-1 defeat against Blacktown City on Saturday afternoon, unable to secure consecutive victories for the first time this season.

Two early goals from Brayden Bur and Abbas Karnib put the Mariners on the back foot early, going 2-0 down before the 20th minute.

An own goal in the 39th minute got the Mariners on the board, trailing by one at the break. The second half was a true battle, with both sides looking to score first.

The Mariners had chances late to equalise, an indirect free kick inside the box in the final minutes the best of the lot. A hand ball shout going without answer as the Mariners fell to a 2-1 loss.

Boy’s academy vs Sydney United 58

The boy’s academy sides came away undefeated against Sydney United on Saturday, with the under 13’s team beginning the day nice and early with a 3-all draw.

The under 14’s backed it up with the exact same result, with the under 15’s securing a 4-1 victory. Both the under 16’s and under 18’s came away with draws, 1-all and nil-all respectively.

Our under 16’s team play a catch-up match tonight against Sydney Olympic at Pluim Park, looking for their first win of the season.

Our boy’s academy sides will depart for their first away trip of the season this weekend, facing off against Blacktown City FC on Saturday.
