The equation: How the Liberty A-League F3 Derby trophy will be awarded this weekend

This weekend, the F3 Derby rivalry is back, as our Liberty A-League team take on the Newcastle Jets at No.2 Sportsground on Sunday afternoon.

With the Derby comes the F3 Derby Trophy, which was proudly unveiled before our first clash of the season in round one.

Created from a piece of guardrail from the M1 motorway, formerly known as the F3, the trophy will be presented at the end of Sunday’s fixture.

It was a hotly contested first leg of the series, with Newcastle ultimately coming away with a late 1-0 win in front of over 5,000 fans.

Both teams finished the match with 10 players, with Alex Huynh and Faye Bryson sent from the field in the 79th minute.

That result means that the Jets currently hold a 1-0 aggregate advantage, with it all coming down to this second leg.

The Equation

In the event that we lose or draw Sunday’s match, the trophy will be awarded to the Jets.

In the event that the match ends in a 1-0 win to us at full time, there will be no extra time. Instead a penalty shoot-out will take place, with the winner receiving the trophy.

In the event that we win with any other score line, we will be awarded the trophy based on away goals.
