Central Coast Mariners Head Coach Phil Moss has named an initial 18 player squad for Saturday-s crunch #F3DERBY against Newcastle Jets at Central Coast Stadium.
While Storm Roux, Josh Rose and Eddy Bosnar all featured in mid-week against Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the AFC Champions League, the trio have been reinstalled to the Mariners- latest Hyundai A-League matchday squad after missing last week-s 3-1 loss away to Melbourne Victory.
Central Coast Mariners attacking ace Mile Sterjovski, whose two goals helped the yellow and navy to a famous 2-1 victory over Sanfrecce Hiroshima earlier this week, told media on Thursday that the Mariners will head into the latest edition of the fierce regional rivalry full of confidence following Tuesday-s win over Hajime Moriyasu-s men.
“It was a massive win and a massive boost for the confidence,” Sterjovski said. “They [Sanfrecce Hiroshima] have been Japanese Champions for two years in a row now, so to win against them is massive for the Club.”
“We-ve focussed a lot on getting things right again, playing to our strengths and I think that showed especially on Tuesday night.”
“We know we are coming up against a Newcastle team that-s full of confidence and that has had some good results lately, so it-s going to be a tough game and we are going to have to be up for it.”
“I think Clayton Zane has done a great job since he-s taken over there and they-ve had a few good results, so their confidence is high. But when they come to Gosford we-re going to be ready for the fight. I think it-s going to be a great match to watch.”
“Playing a derby game against Newcastle is always a heated affair, it-s always a tough game so we have to be at the top of our game to get a result,” he said.
