Preview: Mariners host Melbourne City in 2024 closer

Central Coast Mariners face Melbourne City in the final match of what has been an incredible 2024 at Our Paradise.

Mark Jackson’s side follow Emily Husband’s team in a huge New Years Eve Double Header, looking to respond after a disappointing defeat three days ago and end 2024 on a high.

Just like Jacko, Aurelio Vidmar in the City dugout is also dealing with an injury stricken squad this season.

Impressive international signing Andreas Kuen is the latest on the physio bed, joining the likes of Mathew Leckie, Jimmy Jeggo, Andrew Nabbout, Max Caputo and Marco Tilio on Vidmar’s absentee list.

City have still managed a decent start with four wins, two draws and two losses so far, placing them sixth on the ladder.

They come into this game after back-to-back draws in their last two matches, with a Melbourne derby draw last time out, ten days ago, giving Vidmar’s team a lengthy lead into this match.

Previously vs Melbourne City

The Mariners have fond memories of facing City in recent years, with two 2-1 victories at Our Paradise as well as a thrilling 3-3 draw at AAMI Park last season, following on from our unforgettable 6-1 Grand Final Victory in 2022/23.

Despite edging the overall head to head history, City are without a win at Our Paradise since the 2021/22 season, whilst the Mariners have won 10 out of 19 matches between the two on the Coast.

🗣 Mark Jackson “Everybody is clear on my expectations”

Jacko had some strong words after a disappointing display against Auckland last time out, in his pre-match press conference he explained what preparation on a short turnaround has looked like, including how he has ‘addressed a lot of things’ from the defeat, plus how much the team look forward to Double Headers with our ALW team and supporters.
