Central Coast Mariners debutant, Josh Macdonald bagged a brace in his first appearance for the club in a match that saw the Mariners fire six past Adamstown Rosebud FC. Complimenting Macdonald’s brace were goals to Tom Hiariej, Connor Pain, Matt Simon and Matt Millar.

The run down

In great news for Mariners’ fans, Tom Hiariaj made a return to the starting lineup after recovering from an off-season groin operation whilst Antony Golec marked a miraculous comeback from his fractured shin bone to feature off the bench.

After just two minutes, Hiariej marked his return from injury with a cracking strike from distance to put the Mariners 1-0 up. This saw a promising first 20 minutes from the Mariners with plenty of attacking opportunities and dominance in possession. Hiariej bossed the midfield and created several attacking forays.

The Mariners kept on the attack and after a flurry of crosses from Macdonald and Millar, a nice little piece of play saw Connor Pain convert a Macdonald delivery.

A few moments later, Matt Simon won and converted a spot-kick to make it 3-0 to the Mariners which it stayed until the half time whistle.

The second half started with the return of Antony Golec whom Mariners fans were very pleased to see return after his lengthy rehab period. The Mariners came out with the same intent as the first half and Macdonald had the opening goal just five minutes in.

Michael McGlinchey continued a classy performance with a promising effort from outside the area. The 60th minute saw the arrival of Jordan Murray who made his Mariners debut.

The Mariners continued their forward pressure and converted from a corner with Macdonald who bagged his brace. It didn’t take long for the Mariners to extend their lead with a strike from distance by Matt Millar before Jacob Melling fired a shot of his own into the crossbar.

63’ MACDONALD GOAL (5-0): Macdonald finished smartly with his head from close range to complete his brace.
