The Central Coast Mariners have bolstered their defensive stocks with the addition of a second defender this off-season. The club can confirm that Jonathan Aspropotamitis has signed on with the Mariners ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

Putting pen-to-paper on a one-year-deal with the Central Coast Mariners, Aspropotamitis arrives from the Western Sydney Wanderers where he has already managed 43 Hyundai A-League appearances.

Touted as one of the countryā€™s most promising up and coming central defenders, Aspropotamitis earned his A-League debut under Tony Popovic in 2015. Due to a raft of impressive performances, Aspropotamitis made the position his own and signed his first professional contract in May 2015 with Western Sydney.

Born and raised in Sydney, the form of Aspropotamitis has been rewarded with representative call ups to the Australian U20ā€™s and U23ā€™s teams.

ā€œIā€™m really thrilled to be joining the Mariners, and really excited by Mikeā€™s ambition and what heā€™s bringing to the clubā€ Aspropotamitis said. ā€œIā€™m looking forward to getting started with the boys and working with the new playing group.ā€

ā€œWhen I first met with Mike, I was really inspired by his vision for the club and where he wants the club to be. That persuaded me to move up to the Mariners, and I simply canā€™t wait to get going.ā€

Central Coast Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp spoke of the clubā€™s latest inclusion to the playing squad.  ā€œFirstly, I would like to welcome Jonathan to the club as this is truly a very positive recruitment for us.ā€ Mielekamp said.

ā€œJonathan made an immediate impact on Mike Mulvey from the moment they first connected and although Mike is currently overseas on recruitment duties I know that he would share my sentiments that Jonathan will not only dramatically bolster our defensive capabilities, he will be another strong leader off the field and a great ambassador for us in the community.ā€

Known affectionately as ā€˜Asproā€ the young defender will link up with his new teammates in June on the Central Coast when the squad report for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 pre-season.
