The Central Coast Mariners can announce the late signing of goalkeeper Courtney Newbon, who comes into the squad for this evening’s F3 Derby following an injury to Sarah Langman.
An experienced goalkeeper who has played three seasons of A-League Women’s football before, Newbon joins the club having played for Sydney Olympic in the Women’s NSW NPL competition this year.
Previously suiting up in the A-League for Western Sydney and most recently Perth, she also played an important role in Sydney University’s 2022 NSW NPL Women’s First Grade Premiership, where she was awarded the competitions Goalkeeper of the Year.
Central Coast Mariners Head Coach Emily Husband is pleased to have Newbon on the Coast and thanks her for joining the club on short notice.
“When Sarah injured herself earlier this week, we reached out to Courtney to see if she was able to help us out and join the club leading into the first round of the competition,” Husband said.
“I thank her for her professionalism and am pleased to have someone of her quality stepping in with Sarah out injured. She has been training with us over the past few days and I look forward to seeing what she can do in a Mariners jersey.”
Newbon is excited to be joining the Mariners, pleased to have been given the opportunity.
“I am very excited to have signed for the Mariners. It has been a big few days joining the club but I really look forward to my time on the Coast,” she said.
“I have felt incredibly welcomed in just my short time at the club so far and can’t wait to put on the Mariners jersey and meet all of the fans.”
