Mariners looking to get back to winning ways against Newcastle

The Central Coast Mariners will travel to Newcastle for the second Liberty A-League F3 Derby of the season, with three points, bragging rights and the prestigious F3 Derby trophy on the line!

📈 Form:

Heading into this F3 Derby, the Mariners have won two of their past five matches, grabbing one draw to accompany our two, one goal losses. After defeating both Wellington and Sydney FC within five days, we were unlucky not to pick up at least a point against Western Sydney. A controversial opener and an own goal gave Wanderers the points, with Isabel Gomez’s first goal in the league ruled out.

The Jets come into this match winning two of their last five as well, collecting one draw to go along with their two defeats. A stoppage time goal for Zara Kruger denied Newcastle a point against Sydney FC in Leichhardt last weekend, with that currently leaving them in eighth place.

⏮ Previous meetings:

The last time that we faced Newcastle was the season opener, with the Jets coming away with a narrow 1-0 win in front of over 5,000 fans. An 81st minute strike was all that could split the two teams, coming just moments after both teams had a player dismissed.

👀 Players to watch:

Isabel Gomez had been one of the breakout stars in the Liberty A-League this season, becoming one of the most dominant midfielders in the competition this campaign.

The 21-year-old scored her first A-League goal last weekend, an incredible volley from just inside the 18-yard-box.

Sarina Bolden has been one of the star visa players this season, currently sitting in equal fifth in the golden boot race with seven goals. This has included goals in her last four matches, including in wins over Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United.
