Mariners looking to continue fine run of form

The Mariners will look to go one month without defeat this weekend.

After an impressive and clinical 3-0 victory over Adelaide United last weekend. The Yellow and Navy look to continue their undefeated streak against second-placed Western United this Saturday afternoon.

The Green and Black are coming off a scrappy 3-2 win over the Roar and haven’t won a game at home since defeating the Newcastle Jets 2-1 at the start of March.

Speaking to media after the game against Adelaide United, Nick Montgomery was full of praise for Jason Cummings after netting another goal.

“I don’t think there’s a player like him available for Australia.” He said.

“He’s unbelievable on the ball and has a great left foot and a natural goal scorer.

The Central Coast Mariners have never won away to Western United but the Yellow and Navy will be eager to continue their winning form as they look to moving into the A-League Men’s finals-race on Saturday.

So, who are the key players to keep an eye on this coming Saturday?

Jacob Farrell, (Central Coast Mariners)

After making his debut in the historic F3 Derby at the start of the season, Jacob Farrell has rose to one of Australia’s hottest talents in the A-League Men this season.

The 19-year-old started his life as a professional footballer in fine form when he netted a winner in a 2-1 win over the Jets and week in week out has put together extremely impressive performances at his preferred position of left-back.

The youngster has been named in the team of the week on three occasions so far this season and has some very impressive defensive numbers with over 70% of duels the 19-year-old contests, he wins.

After being part of the Central Coast Mariners Youth System for many years, Farrell joins the list of many highly successful players who have gone on to have lengthy careers for European Clubs and the Socceroos.

Aleksander Prijovic (Western United)

Prijovic made a shock move to Victoria in the off-season and along with his move to Western United, the former Serbian International was touted to bring a host of firepower along with him into the A-League Men.

The 31-year-old former Legia Warsaw striker has netted on six occasions since Boxing Day of 2021 and has also notched up four assists in 14 games.

The tall and former Serbian International has missed three big chances this season for Western United, but Privijoic is coming off scoring a winner against the Roar last weekend and the Yellow and Navy backline will look to keep him quiet on Saturday.

Western United v Central Coast Mariners is scheduled for kick-off at Mars Stadium, at 2:05pm.
