Mariners back in action against Macarthur

This Thursday evening, Central Coast Mariners return to action in Gosford when they face Macarthur Bulls at Central Coast Stadium in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s.

The clash on Thursday comes after a heart-breaking 2-1 defeat for the hosts in the FFA Cup Final at the hands of the Melbourne Victory with Oliver Bozanic netting a goal late on in Melbourne after they were robbed of a penalty in the dying moments.

Heartbreak in Melbourne

A frustrating time for the Mariners of late who have fallen inches short against some of the competition’s top teams in Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City, however this time round they will be looking to make amends at Central Coast Stadium.

Mariners Head-Coach Nick Montgomery opened up about how his squad are going to bounce back after a first-ever cup final defeat last weekend.

“Obviously we all hurt after the final, but we are a resilient group and we can use this as a learning experience to focus on the league from here onwards.”

Macarthur come into this match following a 3-1 loss away to Wellington Phoenix at Campbelltown Stadium which saw the Bulls level the match at 1-1 before the New Zealand side ran away with it in the latter stages.

In the reverse fixture between the two sides, the Bulls held the ascendancy when the Mariners found themselves behind from a deflected strike and were denied by Filip Kurto on numerous occasions in the Macarthur net, with the hosts running out 1-0 winners.

Frustration reigned in Penrith in the last meeting between these two sides.

This time around for the Central Coast, Jason Cummings will be available after his registration for the FFA Cup Final was rejected by Football Australia, and he will be looking to introduce himself to the Central Coast faithful in the best way during his first game at home.

Prior to the match, Liberty A-League action will be on the field and fans can enjoy this match in the same ticket at no extra cost as Perth Glory take on Adelaide United.
