Kye Rowles commits to the Coast

The Central Coast Mariners are excited to announce that the services of 19-year-old defender, Kye Rowles have been secured for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

The promising defender has inked a one-year-contract-extension, adding further depth to Mike Mulvey’s defensive stocks on the Central Coast.

The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup Representative arrived at the Mariners in June 2017 from Brisbane Roar where his career in Yellow & Navy kicked off in impressive fashion, starting in most of the club’s pre-season fixtures.

After a run of imposing pre-season performances last year, Rowles was hampered by a hyper-extension of the knee at the end of pre-season which forced him to wait until round seven to make his Mariners’ debut.

A natural centre-back by trade, Rowles earned most of his Mariners’ opportunities at left-back which he took with both hands on 11 occasions last season.

Upon putting pen-to-paper on his contract extension, Rowles spoke about the motivation to achieve success and repay the loyalty of Mariners’ supporters.

“I’m really happy to earn another contract here at the Mariners,” Rowles said. “It gives me confidence heading into next season knowing that Mike and the club want me here, so my goal now is to repay the faith.

“I want to give this team everything, I love it here at the Central Coast Mariners. I feel like I’ve been here for so much longer than the 12 months it’s been – the club as a whole is moving forward so hopefully this season we can prove to everyone how many steps forward we’ve taken.

“The fans here have been great to me. It would be great to get back to being a successful team like this club once was – to see the stadium full and rocking again would be unreal – we need to get back to that, relish it and repay the fans for their loyalty,” Rowles said.

Mulvey looks forward to seeing the development of our highly rated, young defender.

“Kye is a very promising defender and has shown his versatility to play multiple defensive positions,” Mulvey said. “At just 19-years-of-age, we are confident that Kye can really excel with a full pre-season under his belt, and ultimately stake a claim for his inclusion come round one.

“There needs to be competition for places across the board and last season Kye took every opportunity he earned with both hands, so we look forward to seeing him develop this season,” Mulvey said.
