It’s Mariners Derby Day in the PS4 NPL 2

After the frustration of last weekend’s postponed game against the Western Sydney Wanderers Academy, the Central Coast Mariners Academy will be out to return to winning ways this Sunday when they face the North Shore Mariners at Northbridge Oval. First Grade kick-off at 3pm.

In the previous fixture played between the two sides in round 10, the North Shore side came away with a 4-3 win in an exciting contest, but the Mariners have been in fine form since that fixture, winning 6 and drawing 2 in their last 11 games. The resurgence of the Mariners Academy has seen them rapidly climb the PS4 NPL 2 table.

North Shore Mariners will come into this fixture full of confidence after last week defeating St. George 2-0 and bought themselves level with The Mariners Academy on 30 points. However, CCMA have a game in hand on the top six and sit just two points outside the top 4.

With the PS4 NPL Mens 2 ladder so tight, a win could see our boys rise from 7th to 4th, results depending. With only four rounds remaining, a win is crucial for both teams, so this weekend is set to be a mouth watering fixture.

Indeed, Central Coast have played some scintillating football this season and with the likes of Duncan Stewart, Brenton Fox and Lachlan Wales banging home the goals, and the steady defence led by skipper, Steve Whyte they’ve at times looked near unbeatable.

It’s no secret they can score goals, after all, the Mariners have scored 57 so far this season but North Shore pose a formidable challenge, with their physical in-your-face style. The clash of the Mariners is sure to be an intriguing one.

The day against the North Shore Mariners will also serve as an important run of games for the U18’s & 20’s as the Central Coast Mariners Academy currently sit in fourth place in the tightly contested Club Championship and North Shore are in fifth place.

With the first game of the day kicking off at 11am (U18’s) and entry FREE, it’s set to be an exciting day of football action.

In their respective competitions the under 18’s remain in a commanding lead in first place with just one loss to their name all season. The under 20’s sit in fourth place, just one spot ahead of their opponents, the North Shore Mariners.
