Dutch Midfielder Tom Hiariej touched down at 6:00am this morning at Sydney Airport and was welcomed with open arms by Mariners Members. Despite the long journey, the 28 year old was positive about his latest career move.

“At this moment I feel really excited. We didn’t sleep for 30 hours so also a little bit tired, but feeling welcomed and feeling really good.”

“We want to achieve finals, that’s our main goal – but I want to experience the culture of Australia and meet nice people”.

Cameron Paterson was one of the young fans who travelled down in the early hours of the morning to welcome Tom.

“It was really awesome to meet Tom at the airport this morning – he signed my flag and I got a photo with him. He was so nice, and I hope he likes the Central Coast. It was a great experience!”

Hiariej will be undertaking a medical later this week, before settling into life on the Central Coast.

“It was a really nice arrival. I saw some fans and did some signatures – and of course with this scarf I feel really good – I’m part of the family and I’m proud of it”
