THERE’S just 28 days until our first Hyundai A-League match of the 2012/13 season against Western Sydney Wanderers at Parramatta Stadium. What relevance does the number 28 have for Mariners fans?

A VETERAN of four FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaigns for Australia, Tony Vidmar was the 28th player ever to represent Central Coast Mariners in the Hyundai A-League.

Indeed, the Central Coast was the final stop on the widely respected defender-s professional playing journey which included stints in England, Scotland, Wales, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Vidmar played a total of 38 matches for the Mariners and while he never found the score sheet, he finished his career with a Premiership win in the 2007/08 season.

Tony Vidmar is the current Head Coach of the South Australian Sports Institute Football Program.

He won two Scottish Premier League titles during his time with Rangers and also played a key role in the Qantas Socceroos- qualification to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
