The Central Coast Mariners Academy 12 Girls team are through to the semi-finals of the 2012 Cheryl Salisbury Cup being played at Valentine Sports Park this week.

The Girls have been competing in the Cup since Tuesday and had played both Northbridge FC and Parramatta Lady Hawks to progress through to the quarter-final.

The quarter-final saw them matched up against their Sydney University counterparts. Rebecca Peake scored for the Academy but this was also matched with an own goal from the team to level scores at 1 all at full-time. A penalty shoot-out was necessary to decide the winner and who would progress through to Thursday-s semi-final.

The Mariners Academy Girls dominated the penalty shoot-out with goals to Brittni Nicol, Rebecca Peake and goalkeeper Adina Hawkins. Hawkins skills in front of the goal also prevented Sydney University from scoring with the final result of the penalty shoot-out being 3 nil to the Academy Girls.

Thursday-s semi-final for the Academy Girls will be between either Manly United FC or Western NSW Mariners depending upon the result of their Wednesday game. Kick off for the semi-final is 10am with the Grand Final kicking off at 1pm. All games are being played at Football NSW Headquarters, Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood.
