9. Nik Mrdja
Nik Mrdja

The enigmatic face of the Mariners’ first three seasons, Mrdja has showcased his undeniable talents on all too fleeting occasions at Bluetongue Stadium. Signed as the Mariners’ prime attacking lynchpin for season one, Mrdja showed Mariners Members and supporters a glimpse of his promise with six goals in four competitive matches prior to the start of the Hyundai A-League season, only to then miss the entire campaign with a serious knee injury. Season two was a marginal improvement – Mrdja netting his first Hyundai A-League goal in his third appearance before being sidelined for the latter stages of the campaign with a heel concern. Mrdja exploded out of the blocks in 2007/08 with two Hyundai A-League goals that would earn the strapping marksman a Qantas Socceroo cap, before suffering a recurrence of the very knee injury that was of such concern two years earlier. After returning to full fitness, Mrdja was a shining light at the back end of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season, to such an extent that he won a short term deal with Melbourne Victory for their Finals Series and AFC Champions League campaign. Now back on the Coast, a fit and firing Mrdja could be the attacking spark the Mariners need.
